Kevin R. Allen has over seventeen years experience as a California trial and class action lawyer.
In 1999, he graduated from University of California Los Angeles with a BA in English.
In 2005, he graduated in the top 10% of his class from Santa Clara University School of Law where he was a Technical Editor on the SCU Law Review and a clerk to an Administrative Law Judge with the Department of Labor.
After graduation he passed the California state bar (California State Bar Number 237994) and worked as an associate at Scott Cole & Associates, PC, an aggressive Bay Area wage and hour class action law firm, before joining the San Francisco firm of Minami Tamaki LLP (which traces its origins to the the legal team that convinced the United States Supreme Court to overturn the conviction of Fred Korematsu for defying the incarceration of Japanese Americans during World War II).
In 2013, Kevin R. Allen opened his own firm - Allen Attorney Group - where he spent the next decade litigating dozens of plaintiff’s side California wage and hour class actions as lead class counsel. He was also frequently retained by small and medium sized companies throughout California to act as their outside general counsel or to represent them during litigation of employment related disputes, including claims for misappropriation of trade secrets or under the Federal Labor Standards Act (FLSA).
He brings a unique set of experience to his mediation practice. His years of experience with wage and hour class actions and PAGA claims means he understand the legal landscape and the economics of such cases. And unlike many lawyers, who find themselves representing just employees or employers during their career, Kevin R. Allen has consistently worked for clients on both sides. (He is proud to have received many referrals from opposing counsel over the years.)
Kevin realized early in his career that he wanted to mediate cases so he sought out training and experiences that would further this goal.
He received training on negotiations from the Strauss Institute for Dispute Resolution. He completed Mediating Disputes, a course offered by the Program on Negotiations (PON) at Harvard Law School. In his class action work he was most often lead counsel at class mediations where he worked with some of the best mediators in the state.
He is trained in both caucus and non-caucus mediation techniques.
